Unearthing Ancient Australia (Years 7 – 12)

P1000541_a(small)

Using an inquiry learning approach, students will explore the material culture of Aboriginal Australia through the lens of archaeology.

We start with an introduction to archaeology, including the tools of the trade, then investigate key Ancient Australian archaeological sites and discuss why they are significant and what they can tell us about the past. Students will get to examine examples of stone tool technology, and learn how to recognise a stone tool from an ordinary rock.

This hands-on workshop will give students the opportunity to learn more about Ancient Australia through discussion, inquiry and practical activities, and will address key historical skills and concepts for the ‘Ancient World’ unit at Year 7 and the Year 11 and 12 Ancient History ‘Ancient World’ and ‘Archaeology’ units.
